Appearance
XBRL (Desktop)
What it is: The built-in XBRL tagging and export feature in Draftworx Desktop that converts the finalised Annual Financial Statements into an iXBRL file for submission to CIPC as part of the annual return.
What it's for
CIPC (Companies and Intellectual Property Commission) requires companies above certain thresholds to file their AFS in XBRL format. Draftworx Desktop automates most of the tagging from the AFS data — the compiler reviews and resolves any outstanding items flagged on the XBRL Tagging screen before exporting the file.
How to do it
Understand the tagging screen
- Pink lines require attention — they will cause errors or warnings at submission.
- Green lines are correctly tagged — no action needed.
- Tagged (T), Mandatory (M), Dimensions (D) filters help focus on what needs attention.
Complete the XBRL tagging
- Finalise the AFS before starting XBRL.
- Navigate to XBRL > XBRL Tagging to open the main tagging screen.
- Filter by Mandatory to focus on required tags first.
- Add any missing information in the Manual Override Value column (e.g., CIPC customer code).
- For any nil values, add a Footnote to confirm — do not enter a zero as a manual amount.
- To tag directly from the AFS, go to XBRL > XBRL Tagging on the AFS black taskbar. A tagging panel opens on the left — double-click a pink line to jump to the relevant cell.
- For hidden (light blue) cells, the amount will not be included automatically — select ^ at the bottom of the panel and enter the amount manually in the Tag Info pop-up.
Preview and validate
- Once all pink lines are resolved, go to Format > Preview Options and select XBRL to view the XBRL preview.
- Fix any remaining formatting errors visible on the preview.
- Select Validate Instance File. A "PI Score not calculated properly" warning is expected (CIPC rounding difference) and will not cause a failed submission.
Export
- Navigate to XBRL Financials and select iXBRL to export the file.
- Choose a save location and select Save. The file is ready for CIPC submission.
