Creating a Custom Note (Desktop)

What it is: A way to add a completely new, user-defined note to the Annual Financial Statements — either by filling in one of the built-in "Additional Note" placeholders or by inserting brand-new rows and groupings anywhere in the notes section.

What it's for

Draftworx's standard notes cover the most common disclosures required by accounting frameworks, but every entity is different. A custom note lets you disclose something unique to your client — for example, a related-party transaction not covered by a standard note, or a narrative note required by a specific framework. You can pull figures directly from the Working Trial Balance so the numbers are always in sync with the rest of the statements.

How to do it

Using the built-in Additional Notes placeholders (quickest method)

  1. Scroll to the bottom of any Notes sheet — you will find Additional Note 1 and Additional Note 2 already in place.
  2. Open the grouping, update the heading text, and type your content in the body rows.

Creating a fully custom note between existing notes (DX132)

  1. Find the existing note above which you want to insert your new note.
  2. Go to Format and select Insert Sheet Rows to add the rows you need.
  3. Type the heading of your new note into the first row.
  4. Select all the body rows (everything except the heading row) and go to Design, then select Group note. This creates the collapsible grouping.
  5. Click on any cell in the heading row and select Auto-Number Note to assign the correct sequential number.
  6. If you need a sub-note inside your new note, repeat steps 3–5 for the sub-note rows within the body.

Populating the note with figures

  • To insert an account description from the trial balance: go to DesignName under Trial Balance Values, then select the account.
  • To insert current-year figures: go to DesignFinal under Trial Balance Values, then select the account.
  • To insert prior-year figures: go to DesignPrior under Trial Balance Values, then select the account.

Formatting the custom note

  • Use AutoSum under Format to add a total row.
  • Use Format Cells → Draftworx to apply the standard thousands-grouping format.
  • Use Cell Borders to add borders above or below totals.
  • Use Font options for bold, italic, or underline.
  • Use Format Painter to copy formatting from another cell.
  • Use Alignment options to align text or numbers as needed.
