Managing Client File Access — Locking and Unlocking (Desktop)

What it is: The ability to lock a client file so that other users cannot make changes to it, and to unlock it again when work needs to resume.

What it's for

A manager or partner can lock a client file to prevent anyone from editing it — for example, after the financial statements have been finalised and signed off. A password is set at the time of locking; only someone with that password (or the Manager Password) can unlock the file later.

How to do it

Lock a Client File

  1. On the Client List, select the client file you want to lock.
  2. Click Access.
  3. Click Lock Client.
  4. Enter the Manager Password and click OK.
  5. Click Yes to confirm the lock.
  6. Choose a Password Type for the lock, or select Explicit Password to set a custom password.

Unlock a Client File

  1. With the client file selected, click Access, then click Unlock Client.
  2. Click Yes to confirm.
  3. Enter the password that was set when the file was locked, and click OK.

Note: Only a Manager or Partner can lock and unlock client files. If the Manager Password is lost, it can be requested from support@draftworx.com — only Managers and Partners may make this request.
