Custom Notes (Cloud)

What it is: Custom Notes in Draftworx Cloud is the capability to create new, user-defined notes in the financial statements, including the ability to group rows for automated note numbering and to merge or unmerge cells for custom formatting.

What it's for

Not every disclosure required for a client will have a pre-built note in the standard template. Custom Notes allows preparers to build their own notes from scratch and format them to match the rest of the financial statements. Grouping rows into a note structure keeps the automated note numbering sequential; merging and unmerging cells lets preparers control the visual layout.

How to do it

Grouping Notes (maintaining sequential note numbering)

Grouped Notes maintain the automation of sequential note numbers and assist with the print layout. A Grouping requires two components: a Heading row and a Body (the content rows).

  1. Identify the Heading row and the Body rows of your custom note.
  2. Select all the rows that form the Body of the note (exclude the Heading row).
  3. Select Group Note from the menu.
  4. Select Design to apply the grouping.
  5. A Grouped Note is identifiable by an Open Square with a Minus Sign; the square must sit inline with the Heading row.
  6. Notes can include Sub-Notes — the main note has a grouping, and the sub-note is nested within.
  7. To enable automated numbering, select the cell in Column C that is inline with the Heading, then select Auto-Number Note. This keeps added notes in sequential order.
  8. To remove a grouping, select the existing Grouping and choose Ungroup Note.

Unmerging and merging cells (custom formatting)

When customising Financial Statements or Working Papers, cells can be merged or unmerged for formatting purposes.

  1. Select the rows or cells you want to unmerge.
  2. Navigate to Format.
  3. Select the Merge icon.
  4. Select Unmerge Cells. If a locked-cell warning appears, first unlock the cells (see Unlocking Cells to Edit).
  5. Once unmerged, cells are split back to individual columns.
  6. To merge cells, select the target range and choose the appropriate merge option:
    • Merge Across — merges selected columns across each row individually.
    • Merge & Centre — merges all selected cells and centres the content.
    • Merge Cells — merges all selected cells without centring.
